Privacy Policy

Minimal is designed with privacy first. Your financial data stays on your device by default and is never sold or shared with third parties.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the profile information you authorize (name, email, and profile photo).

Financial data you enter: Transactions, budgets, wallet accounts, and categories that you create within the app. This data is entered manually by you and is not sourced from your bank automatically.

Bank statements you import: If you use the bank import feature, statement files (OFX, QFX, CSV) are parsed entirely on your device. The raw files are never uploaded to any server.

2. How Your Data Is Stored

On your device: All app data is stored locally on your device using browser/app storage. The app works fully offline.

Cloud sync (optional): If you sign in, your data is synced to Google Firebase Firestore so it can be accessed across your devices. Your data is stored in a private document accessible only to your authenticated account.

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest (Google Cloud encryption)
Each user's data is isolated and protected by Firebase Security Rules
No other user or administrator can access your financial data

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to:

Provide and maintain the app's functionality
Authenticate your identity for cloud sync
Sync your data across your devices

We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any purpose beyond providing the app's core features.

4. Third-Party Services

Minimal uses the following third-party services:

Firebase Authentication — for user sign-in (Google, Apple, email/password)
Firebase Firestore — for optional cloud data sync
Plaid Inc. — for optional bank account linking (see below)

Firebase services are operated by Google and are subject to Google's Privacy Policy. We do not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

4a. Bank Account Linking (Plaid)

Minimal offers an optional feature to connect your bank accounts using Plaid Inc., a third-party financial services provider. When you choose to link a bank account:

You authenticate directly with your bank through Plaid's secure interface (Plaid Link). Minimal never receives or stores your bank login credentials.
Plaid retrieves your transaction history (dates, descriptions, amounts) and account identifiers on your behalf.
Minimal receives only the transaction details needed to populate your budget and expense tracking. We do not access your account balances, account numbers, or routing numbers through Plaid.
You can disconnect a linked bank account at any time, which stops all future data retrieval from that account.

Plaid's handling of your data is governed by the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal or financial data with any third parties. Your data is never used for advertising purposes.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

Your data is retained as long as you have an account. You can delete all your data at any time:

In-app: Go to Settings and use "Clear All Data" to erase all local and cloud data
Account deletion: Contact us to request complete account and data deletion

7. Children's Privacy

Minimal is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including:

Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
Firebase Security Rules restricting data access to authenticated owners
No server-side storage of bank statement files
Local-first architecture minimizing cloud exposure

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access all data stored about you (visible directly in the app)
Export your data (available through the app's export feature)
Delete your data at any time
Use the app offline without creating an account

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
